Secure your assets

It is possible that others knowing your preparedness could make you a target.  You want to keep your family and your hard work safe from anyone that wants to forcefully take it from you.  Keep in mind that some items just aren’t worth you taking a life.  IUse your best judgement.

Appearances

  • Unexpected visitors should be greeted aggressively.  Let it be known that you do not like unannounced guest.  Remain on a defensive posture until you are comfortable with the reason they are visiting.
  • Move important assets at night or when less people are watching.
  • Remove the suspicion of hidden items.  Keep some of your supplies displayed.
  • Keep a backup cache of your supplies hidden.  Hide in the attic, in walls, buried in the yard or some remote location that is only known to you.

Other People

  • Joining a group could potential make your assets group property.  Keep track of your surplus and do not let anyone know where you stand.
  • Teach others to prepare.  I’ve heard it many times…  “If anything happens, I’m going to your house”.  People don’t consider that every crumb of bread and drop of water they take comes from the mouth of your family.  They do not consider the time, money and commitment you’ve made by being prepared.  Teach them to fish for themselves.
